Eliza’s Background

Based in Bucharest, Romania, Eliza Luca has been involved in sports from a young age. She is a former national and international gymnastics champion who represented Steaua Club, winning numerous titles. She studied Medical Physics and Kinesiotherapy and earned a master’s in Biosensors. Eliza has served as a personal trainer and instructor for the Royal House of Princess Margareta. After working as a personal trainer at various fitness clubs in Bucharest, Luiza is now the sports director at Sweat Concept and co-founder of Sport from Home.

What led you to your profession and specialization?

I began practicing performance gymnastics around age four and have done so for 18 years. I’ve always had an energetic, athletic nature. Combined with my desire to help people create a healthy lifestyle, I chose this profession. In some way, the profession chose me because I don’t know if I’ve ever done anything else with more pleasure and dedication. After quitting gymnastics, I immediately became a sports instructor. In time, I became a sports director, coordinating nine gyms that later became a part of the World Class group.

I co-founded the online project Sport from Home during the pandemic, as I shifted from 12 hours a day in the gym to feeling stuck. This further motivated me to try new things and support people who felt the same way. While initially, it seemed like a temporary solution, we’re still covering the need to work out from home, helping our customers in the long term.

With a shift in perspective and having to deal with coordinating sessions through a screen, I realized I had many creative ways to keep people engaged in their workouts. The project also led to my role as sports director at Sweat Concept.

After 36 years of work and experience in the field, I can say that my life is dedicated to sports.

What is your area of expertise?

I aim to create personalized training programs for muscle growth, weight loss, and toning. I generally like to diversify workouts for myself and my clients. I combine cardio with strength training and add functional training. This combo increases the body’s resistance while toning it.

I tested this approach, and it encourages desired results to appear faster and maintain long-term. Over time, I found that desired results appear much quicker this way. Moreover, I believe that sticking to a single format can become monotonous and fail to develop us harmoniously.

There’s also the sports-in-my-DNA component. What I mean by this is that I emphasize the role of safe, quality workouts. Being dedicated to sports from a young age helped me respect the movement itself and encourage my clients to reach their goals.

I always focus on understanding the person in front of me. My goal is to help my clients not give up on movement and themselves. Adapting to many personality types requires a lot of dedication, passion, and hard work. This profession has brought me many friendships, especially since I value the partnership that develops between the client and the trainer.

Why do you consider your work important?

Physical activity is crucial in everyone’s life. It affects physical appearance and mental and emotional well-being. A healthy body brings a sense of well-being. Getting to a healthy body and adopting healthy habits may not always be easy, so I consider being a holistic trainer vital. I think my work is important, but not just from a workout perspective. I invest in theory, specialized practice, and psychology to help others gain confidence, stay healthy, and keep a clear head. It goes beyond the body fitness.

What is your approach to helping people improve their health? What is your perspective?

My approach is based on providing scientifically grounded information personalized to individual needs. My holistic perspective combines physical, mental, and emotional aspects of health. I aim to support my clients in pushing beyond the initial boost in enthusiasm that usually accompanies the start. I acknowledge the effort it takes to push through fatigue and lack of motivation. That’s when I come in. With support and understanding, people can move past the feeling of not doing or being able to do enough. Sports have to be a pleasant routine rather than an exhausting and torturous activity.

One-on-one is vital, especially for beginners. Adopting training and tailoring it to everyone’s needs and capabilities is also vital. Not to mention the correct execution of movements to prevent various injuries. Controlling and adapting movement efficiently and safely, starting with a warm-up and ending with stretching, are vital parts of my approach. It’s rather old-school, but it’s healthy and sustainable.

What are your strategies for helping someone improve their life?

Continuous education, implementing healthy habits, setting clear and realistic goals, and monitoring progress.

I will combine my knowledge as a personal trainer and a group instructor to help participants understand the importance of movement and achieve their goals in this retreat. I aim to build enthusiasm for working out and create a direct, honest, engaged partnership with the participants.

I’ve always felt empowered by recommendations from my clients because that means I successfully made them appreciate what I did for them. It means that they feel the need to share their personal experiences with friends. Not only will I bring my vast expertise in one-on-one and group training, as well as diverse in-door and out-door exercises, but I will also strive to build engagement and enthusiasm.

As I said, I am old-fashioned and believe in value, education, and sustained effort. I don’t believe in quick solutions; I know it takes many hours of practice to create impactful and substantial results. But I will never forget that sports are supposed to bring joy and a feel-good sense. I aim to make sports a lifestyle for people.

Where are you currently working?
